A. Lange & Söhne Introduces the Lange 1 Time Zone “25th Anniversary”
Number five of ten.Having recently launched the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar, the most complicated watch in the 10-piece, 25thAnniversary set, A. Lange & Söhne has now unveiled perhaps the most utilitarian watch in the set – the Lange 1 Time Zone “25th Anniversary”.
Introduced in 2005, the Lange 1 Time Zone integrates the practicality of a second time zone function into the design perfection of a Lange 1, making it a highly desirable travel watch for the Lange aficionado. The last time a limited edition Lange 1 Time Zone came around was in 2016 when the 100-piece honey gold edition was unveiled.
Like the preceding 25th anniversary editions, the new Lange 1 Time Zone features a silver dial with blue indices and markings, paired with blued steel hands.
The peripheral cities ring, which has black lettering on the standard model, is likewise rendered in dark blue. The only other colour on the dial is the red, for the low power reserve marking as well as Greenwich Mean Time on the cities ring.
The watch is otherwise identical to the stock model. And like the standard Lange 1, it has a power reserve indicator and oversized date, but with the seconds replaced by the local time display.
The entire dial delivers, at a single glance, the reading of home time on the main dial and local time on a sub dial at five o’clock, each accompanied by its own day and night indicator.
The pusher at eight o’clock advances the cities ring clockwise, with the cities arranged from west to east. At the same time, the hour hand on the local time sub-dial moves forward in one-hour steps with each advance of the cities disc. A synchronisation mechanism also makes it possible to invert the time zone displays when travelling, transferring the local time zone on the sub dial onto the large main dial to make it more legible.
The Lange 1 Time Zone “25th Anniversary” has an 18k white gold case that measures 41.9 wide and 10.9mm in height, which is nearly as thick as the standard Lange 1. The watch houses the hand-wound cal. L031.1, a movement based on the first generation Lange 1 movement.
It’s complete with all of Lange’s hallmarks including the three-quarter plate made of untreated German silver, screwed gold chatons, twin mainspring barrels for a 72-hour power reserve and the swan’s neck regulator index.
And as with all of the 10th-anniversary editions, the balance cock, as well as the cock for the second intermediate wheel in this case, are both hand-engraved with the anniversary motif that’s filled with blue ink.
