Breitling is introducing a luxe variation of its flagship chronograph to mark the tenth year of S&S Group, a luxury retailer that represents brands ranging from Rolls Royce to Richard Mille in Vietnam. The Navitimer B01 “S&S 10th Anniversary” Limited Edition is making its debut just in time for the opening of the Breitling boutique in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi.
Highlighting its focus on Southeast Asia, it comes as no surprise that Breitling has unveiled another edition of its trademark chronograph, following the Singapore Airlines edition from last year. But instead of a mere change of colour as it usually does, Breitling has employed mother-of-pearl for the dial, an unusual material for the brand but one that adds a touch of extravagance to an otherwise functional pilot’s watch.
The mother-of-pearl dial instantly sets this apart from the standard Navitimer, particularly with the red gold case. Perhaps the only thing missing is the retailer’s logo on the dial, a detail that would hark back to the double-signed dials that are desirable in vintage watches.
Priced at US$21,800, the S&S Navitimer is slightly more expensive than the standard production model in rose gold that has a plain, cream dial. This increase can primarily be attributed to the mother-of-pearl dial and seems fairly proportional for the upgrade in dial material.
This Navitimer edition celebrates the tenth year of S&S Group, which was founded in 2013 as the sole retailer for Richard Mille in Vietnam. The company has since expanded to represent several watch brands like Bovet and Audemars Piguet, and diversified into automobile marques like McLaren, Lamborghini, and Rolls Royce.
The chronograph is a variant of the Navitimer B01, which was released in 2022. It sports a vintage-inspired design with a winged AOPA emblem at 12, an ode to the original Navitimer, which was the official timepiece of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA).
Nevertheless, the main feature of this timepiece lies in its cloud-inspired, blue mother-of-pearl dial, which visually contrasts the white registers. According to Breitling, the dial was inspired by the tagline “the sky’s the limit”, symbolising the partnership between the Grenchen-based brand and the Vietnamese retailer.
Aside from the dial colour, the dial design remains identical to standard Navitimer models with the familiar slide-rule bezel and a date at six.
The case is 18k red gold and measures 41 mm in diameter and 13.6 mm high. Inside is the Caliber 01, the brand’s in-house chronograph movement featuring both a column wheel and vertical clutch, while providing a power reserve of 70 hours.
