Jaquet Droz Introduces the Grande Seconde Off-Centered in Onyx & Stainless Steel

The emblematic Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde will soon be available in a more affordable guise with the introduction of a stainless steel model at Baselworld 2016. Here's a quick rundown, including the price.

Historically available only in gold with lavish dials like paillonnée enamel, Jaquet Droz will introduce the very first Grande Seconde in stainless steel at Baselworld 2016. It joins the Grande Heure Minute Quantieme introduced last year as a more accessibly priced, entry-level mode.

The Grande Seconde Off-Centered adds a literal twist to the brand’s signature model with a slight rotation of the dial axis, putting the crown at four o’clock. Two models will be offered, one with a silver-plated dial and the other with a polished black onyx dial. The onyx dial also features 18k white gold chapter rings for the hours and minutes as well as the seconds inlaid into the stone surface.

Though the case is stainless steel, it is identical in form to the precious metal Grande Seconde case, with a diameter of 43 mm. Inside is the calibre 2663A.P, an automatic movement with a silicon hairspring and pallet fork, meaning both components are resistant to magnetism and temperature changes, while the pallet fork also operates without friction.

The Grande Seconde Off-Centered will cost SFr10,200, equivalent to about US$10,000. The price is subject to minor adjustments at Baselworld 2016.
