An Affordable Jump Hour from Zentier

The Lapis Sauté Mt. Fuji Edition.

The Lapis Sauté Mt. Fuji Edition is an affordable jump hour watch from micro brand Zentier that combines a classical a guichet display for hours and minutes, along with a cushion case and a lapis lazuli dial. Like Zentier’s earlier jump hour model, this was created in collaboration with Hong Kong enthusiast community Watch Ho & Co.

Initial thoughts

As is often the case with micro brands, Zentier’s jump hour stands out for offering a combination of features that are typically found in pricier watches. The classical styling is clearly oriented towards the enthusiast, as is the compact case size.

Granted, the price of a little over US$1,000 means that compromises have to be made. The movement is economical, while the dial is likely reconstituted lapis rather than unprocessed natural stone.

But all in all it’s an appealing jumping hour watch at an accessible price that enables the enthusiasts to experience a distinctive complication on a budget.

Windows

The centrepiece is the lapis lazuli dial with a jumping hour window at 12 o’clock and dragging minutes in an arched window at six. This is traditional presentation for the jump hours typically associated with “digital” watches of the 1930s.

Powering the watch is the self-winding Seagull ST-1721 with an added jumping hour module. It’s a no-frills but functional calibre operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and features a power reserve of approximately 40 hours.

The steel case back secured by four screws bears an engraved silhouette of Mount Fuji.
