Introducing The Vulcain Pegasus Only Watch 2015, Fitted With A Unique Cloisonné Enamel Dial

Alarm watch specialist Vulcain has just unveiled the Pegasus Only Watch 2015, a one of a kind timepiece with a cloisonné enamel dial decorated with the mythical winged horse.

Fitted with a unique dial created for Only Watch 2015, the Vulcain Pegasus shows a white winged stallion floating over the sea, with a radiant sun behind it. Every element of the dial is formed by solid gold wires, hand applied to the dial to create the motif. Each of these cells is then filled with enamel and fired in an oven – one firing for each colour – to create the richly coloured cloisonné enamel dial. Made by Donze Cadran, the dial specialist owned by watchmaker Ulysse-Nardin that’s one of the few enamel dial makers in Switzerland, the dial is the only one ever made. While Vulcain does offer a limited edition Pegasus wristwatch with a similar motif, that features a completely different dial design. Beyond the design, the dial is also distinguished by the 12 diamond hour markers.

The pink gold case measures 42mm in diameter, with the button at two o’clock for alarm setting. Inside is the V-20 calibre, a self-winding movement with a buzzing alarm function. As alarm movements go, Vulcain can definitely claim the greatest longevity: it has been manufacturing the Cricket alarm movement since it invented the calibre in 1947. Vulcain has given its Cricket alarm the moniker “The Watch for Presidents”, as seen on the rotor of the movement, because the Cricket was worn by several sitting American Presidents, including Johnson and Truman.

A charity auction that raises funds for Duchenne muscular dystrophy research, Only Watch will see 43 timepieces being sold on November 7, 2015 in Geneva under the auspices of Phillips auctioneers.
