Hands-on with the Speake-Marin Renaissance Tourbillon Minute Repeater
Peter Speake-Marin’s Renaissance Tourbillon Minute Repeater was recently nominated for the Complicated Watch category of the 2012 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.
Speake-Marin Renaissance |
Unveiled earlier this year, the Renaissance is Speake-Marin’s most complicated timepiece. Housed in a 44 mm rose gold Piccadilly case, the movement is supplied by La Fabrique du Temps (who are also behind the Laurent Ferrier Micro-Rotor). Each piece is unique as the movement bridges are hand-engraved with different motifs. This watch has no dial, so most of the minute repeater mechanism is visible from the front. The view is very attractive and illustrates Peter’s high level of finishing, especially of the steel parts. The tourbillon bridge and cage shaped like a topping tool are especially well shaped and finished.
Notice the silicon escape wheel |
Oddly enough the view from the back is not as compelling. The bridges are large and closely spaced, leaving not much of a view though it is a great canvas for the engraver.
Six pieces will be made with a price of just under CHF300,000. Enjoy the rest of the photos below. – SJX
