Baselworld 2013: Blancpain Bathyscaphe – entry level sports watch
Blancpain recently presented the Bathyscaphe, the brand’s new entry level sports timepiece. Available in titanium or steel, the Bathyscaphe has a ceramic bezel, silicon hairspring and 120 hour power reserve.
With design elements that echo Blancpain’s Fifty Fathoms and Bathyscaphe dive watches of the fifties, the new Blancpain dive watch is obviously called the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe. The Bathyscaphe is also the brand’s new entry level sports model, fitting in below the Fifty Fathoms Automatic in the Blancpain line-up. The new Bathyscaphe has a 43 mm case with a ceramic bezel, available in either steel with grey dial or black ceramic coated titanium with black dial. It’s water resistant to 300 m, with the automatic, 120-hour power reserve cal. 1315 inside. In addition, the movement has a silicon balance spring. Both versions are available on a nylon or NATO-style canvas strap. The retail price in Singapore is S$14,500 in steel and S$16,600 in titanium, including 7% tax, while in the US they are US$10,500 and US$12,000 respectively. These are a more accessible entry in the Blancpain dive and sport watch category. This compares with S$20,100 (~US$16,400) for the Fifty Fathoms Automatic.
