Hands-on with the Lange Grand Lange 1 Lumen (live photos and price)
Yesterday Lange unveiled the Grand Lange 1 Lumen limited edition. Similar in style to the Zeitwerk Luminous Phantom, which was a smash hit, the Grand Lange 1 Lumen retains the iconic Lange 1 style but looks thorough modern. Here are live photos of the prototype.

Compared to the Zeitwerk Phantom, which had an almost black tinted dial, the Grand Lange 1 Lumen has a grey tint, which easily reveals the date mechanism underneath. The perlage of the base plate is not evident, except on close inspection.
Because the units disc of the date is sapphire, the two levels of the date are quite apparent from an angle.
The contrasting grey tinted sapphire also makes the twin sub-dials and the date jump out, making it a bit more legible.
All the text on the dial is precisely printed on the tinted sapphire disc. There is no bleeding even at magnification.
Another notable detail is the applied markers of the power reserve function.
And here it is compared with the regular Grand Lange 1. Though both are identical at 40.9 mm wide, the silver dial looks larger than the Lumen.
Inside is the same L095.1 movement as found in the regular Grande Lange 1. Needless to say, movement decoration is impeccable.
The Lumen is a limited edition of 200 pieces with a retail price of EUR59,000. – SJX
