Vacheron Constantin Introduces the Patrimony Perpetual Calendar in Blue
A handsome facelift.Only available with conservative silver or grey dials till now, the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin gets a lively makeover with a blue, sunburst dial, paired with a pink gold case – a facelift that’s been applied to the entire collection and began earlier in the year with the entry-level models.
While changing the dial colour isn’t really news, the blue dial does give the watch a sleeker and more modern look, while also catering to the current blue dial fad.
The dial itself is slightly convex, with the pearl-shaped minute markers and applied hour indices in pink gold, which are paired with pink gold hands.
More notable is the redesigned moon on the moon phase disc that replaces the plain, polished disc on the older versions. The moon is also pink gold, but engraved with tiny craters to mimic the actual moon.
The rest of the watch remains unchanged. The dimensions of the case are still 41mm wide but only 8.96mm high, as it houses the ultra-thin automatic cal. 1120 QP – the same movement found in the Overseas Perpetual Calendar.
While the perpetual calendar module was developed by Vacheron Constantin, the base movement was originally introduced by Jaeger-LeCoultre in 1967 as the cal. 920.
Despite being over 50 years old, the calibre is arguably one of the most iconic in watchmaking, having been used in both the original Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus. Today only Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet produce the movement, both having bought the rights to make it in-house.
Visible through the sapphire case back, the movement bears the Poincon de Geneve, or Geneva Seal, and is fitted with a rotor rimmed in 22k gold and skeletonised to form a Maltese cross. It has a frequency of 2.75 Hz and a 40-hour power reserve.
