Introducing the Siduna M3440, Inspired by the Lemania “Viggen” Pilot’s Chronograph

A 1970s Swedish air force issue watch revived.

In the 1970s Lemania produced a number of pilot’s chronographs for Flygvapnet, Sweden’s air force. Nicknamed “Viggen”, after the Saab 37 Vigen fighter jet, the design has been revived by startup Siduna, which puts together the watch in Sweden with Swiss components.

Named after a defunct, 1920s Danish watch importer, Siduna offers two versions of the chronograph, the twin-register, “uni-compax” M3440UC, and the M3440FB with a flyback function.

The flyback model will be powered by a Valjoux 7750, while the movement inside the uni-compax version has yet to be determined, though the Sellita SW500 is a possibility.

Both models share the same 42mm steel case, and bidirectional elapsed time bezel. The bezel is black-coated steel with engraved markings that are filled with Super-LumiNova.

Price and availability

The Siduna M3440UC “uni-compax” costs €1920, or about US$2260, while the M3440FB flyback is €2400, or US$2830. Prices exclude taxes.

Delivery is expected in November 2018. It can be ordered from Woodshores, the corporate parent of Siduna.
