Horological Society of New York Watchmaking Classes in Hong Kong
On June 8 and 9.
The Horological Society of New York will be hosting four sessions of its Traveling Education courses in Hong Kong over two days in June.
Traveling Education is an extension of the nonprofit’s weekly classes that are usually taught in Manhattan and intended for enthusiasts and collectors to gain a hands-on insight into actual watchmaking. Each class includes time at the bench disassembling and putting back together a simple movement.
The tour will take HSNY to Hong Kong this year, marking a return to Asia after its classes in Singapore in September 2018, done in partnership with retailer The Hour Glass.
Its Hong Kong leg will be hosted by pre-owned watch specialist, WatchBox, which is part of the same group as American authorised retailer Govberg Watches.
The four sessions will take place at The Upper House on June 8 and 9, with two sessions each day starting at 9.00am and 2.30pm respectively. Each class is limited to eight students and will cost US$500, or 3,923 Hong Kong dollars.
Each session is four hours long and will be led by the HSNY’s Director of Traveling Education, Vincent Robert. The course will cover the society’s “Horology 101 – 103” curriculum that explains movement mechanics, gear training, winding, setting, with students working on an ETA Unitas 6497 at the same time.
WatchBox will also be holding a party for collectors and enthusiasts alike on Saturday, June 8, at the same venue.
