Pre-SIHH 2018: Vacheron Constantin Unveils the Traditionnelle Complete Calendar Collection Excellence Platine

The triple calendar executed entirely in platinum.

Timepieces such as the triple calendar ref. 4240 were instrumental in establishing Vacheron Constantin as a preeminent watchmaker after the Great Depression. Yet the complication remains far less common than the annual or perpetual calendar in the brand’s modern day offerings.

In fact, it wasn’t until last year – the first time in over a decade – that the maison reintroduced the complication with the Harmony Complete Calendar. Following that, the Geneva watchmaker had further unveiled the Historiques Triple Calendrier 1942 and 1948 earlier in October. In short order a fourth triple calendar has joined the family, with Vacheron Constantin having just taken the covers off the Traditionnelle Complete Calendar Collection Excellence Platine at Dubai Watch Week.

The new triple calendar carries itself in a similar style to the rest of the Traditionelle line, but being part of the Collection Excellence Platine, the case, dial, buckle, and hand-engraved moon phase disc are all platinum. Even the top-stitching on its alligator leather strap is made of platinum wire. A discreet “Pt950” hallmark on the dial at four o’clock is the only giveaway as to the generous quality of platinum found in the watch.

The case is likewise platinum, naturally, measuring 41mm in diameter and 10.72mm high.

Because much of the watch is the silver-grey shade of platinum, it is almost monochromatic, save for a handful of blue accents on the calendar display.

The watch is equipped with the cal. 2460 QCL, the brand’s top-tier self-winding movement, with a calendar module added on top.
