Introducing the Zenith Pilot Extra Special 40mm in Gunmetal and Coloured Dials

The time-only aviator's watch gets a facelift.

Originally available only in steel or bronze with no-nonsense black dials, the Zenith Pilot Extra Special 40mm becomes a bit more fashion forward at Baselworld 2017 with four new variants intended to appeal to ladies.

Available in blue, olive, grey or burgundy, the new dials have a grained finish with ivory-tone Super-Luminova on the hour numerals and hands. While the colours are new, the dial design remains inspired by Zenith’s early 20th century pilot’s watches with Gothic-font numerals and cathedral-style hands.

The case is a modest 40mm in diameter, made of stainless steel with a gunmetal finish. What Zenith labels “aged steel” is the result of first coating the case with a dark grey coating that is then sanded off in an irregular manner.

Inside is the Elite 679, an in-house automatic movement with a 50-hour power reserve.

Price and availability

Pricing has yet to be announced but expect it to cost about US$5400.
